Report of the Parks Vision Committee

Park areas are managed according to policies, practices, and guidelines adopted over the years through direction of the Parks and Recreation Commission, Municipal Council, and staff.  As part of its ongoing work, in 2004 the Parks & Recreation Commission created task committee of Commission members and staff to review current practices and set directions, guidelines, and recommendations for operational initiatives in the years ahead. This report is the culmination of this review. It is the Committee’s hope that this compilation of information and recommendations will assist Parks and Recreation Commission members and Municipal Council members to make decisions about the future of Oak Bay’s parks and open spaces.

In 2011 the Parks and Recreation Commission again created a task committee to review and update this document. Revisions included updating the listing of parks and park amenities, identifying recommendations that were completed, adding new recommendations and improving the look and format of the document.

This report is considered an excellent resource to help guide operational decisions and to provide the community with a complete inventory of parks and amenities.
